No Russian 1 – Disempowerment

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been in the media quite a lot recently, for a variety of reasons. Most notable, however, is the massive contraversy surrounding a single mission in the game: ‘No Russian’. No doubt many of you have already seen or heard about this aspect of the game and have formulated your own opinions about the morality or intelligence of the decision to include the mission. As a game designer and academic I found this mission of particular interest and feel it prudent to dissect it from a critical stand-point.
